How to Use an Electric Guitar Tuner

A tuned guitar is very important for a performing guitarist. Audiences and musical purists cannot appreciate a well composed song or the talented playing skills of a guitarist if the guitar is out of tune. This is why musicians know the importance of tuning their instruments every time they play whether in practice or in a program. Tuning their instruments at all time’s mean they can give out sonorous tunes to their audience at all times. They turn to different tuning devices like tuning forks, electric guitar and even their ears to make sure that their guitars have the perfect pitch.

Tuning by ear is a special skill that is developed as time goes on. There are only few people that can master such skill and if they are to tune all other instruments, any tiny pitch issues would be noticeable.

Electric guitar tuners is also another source of accurate and precise tuning since it is an external reference guitar players can turn to. Hence electric guitar players should have one in their disposal. There are handheld ones that are price between 10 to 20 dollars. They are very portable and handy with any other equipment. Using an electric guitar tune is the quickest and most accurate way to tune the guitar. You can always find them at local music stores. When the urge to buy one finally takes over, make sure that the electric guitar tuner that you asked for is built specifically for guitar tuning.

Once you acquired your electric guitar tuner, plug your guitar into the input jack. The left side is where you can find this typically. Pluck a string and watch the indicator of the electronic guitar tuner. Choose the first string E as your initial test string and follow the direction of the LED meters if they indicate whether the string is right, loose or tight.

If the guitar strings are out of tune, the electric guitar tuner will indicate it by flashing red. You can adjust tuning accordingly by turning the string’s tuning key. If the string is flat, then you should tighten the string, and if it sharp, loosen the string.

All the other strings should be tested by the same procedure. After tuning the strings, always double check. If all strings yield a green light, then your guitar is already in perfect tune.
